Blake: Miranda Loves This Song

Blake Shelton’s latest song, “Doin’ What She Likes,” is a favorite with his wife Miranda Lambert.  Blake talked about it this week on Country Countdown USA: “She was singing today actually, I heard her singin’ the line ‘She likes hearing how good she looks in blue jeans.’ She likes that line.  She doesn’t like it when I burn the house down, like I do in the video.”

There’s also a line in the song about mixing margaritas.  But Miranda has her own version of the drink, the Ran-dorita.  So wouldn’t she mix them for you? “No, she doesn’t mix things for me.  Miranda posts up on the couch with a blanket and a laptop, and she gets in a position with the dogs that it’s like, ‘I can’t really get up, would you grab me this, will you get me that.’  That’s how she gets away with it, so I do everything for her.”

So what’s in a Ran-dorita? “It’s changed over the years.  Lately, it’s mostly Crystal Lite, diet Sierra Mist, vodka, rum, whatever, cough syrup, if she’s not looking I’ll put all kinds of stuff in there.  Benadryl.”

 

Blake & Miranda have been married for 3 years, and Blake says he’s learned a lot about “doin’ what she likes:”  “It was funny for me being married to Miranda.  At first, you’re like, ‘I’ve gotta go fishing today,’ or ‘I’ve got to do this today.’  You finally realize that unless you’re doing the things she wants you to do, you can’t win.  Even if you do the thing you want to do, it’s not worth the misery of returning.”

Even when it comes to awards, Blake is ‘doin’ what she likes.’  They’re both nominated for Entertainer and Song of the Year at next month’s ACM Awards, and Blake says he’s rooting for his wife: “I always look for her to win awards at these things.  She’s just one of these special types of artists, she’s not like anybody else, and this community celebrates that.  We love to see something original.  There are people like me who’ll come and go, but there are people like Miranda who break the mold, so it’s nice to see them win, I hope she wins.”
