Zac Brown Explains “The Hug”
It was one of those “moments” during the opening segment of the CMA Awards in November. Hosts Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood sang “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” and invited Luke Bryan and Zac Brown to hug. Earlier in the year, Zac had criticized Luke’s song “That’s My Kind of Night” in a Canadian interview. So was the TV hug spontaneous or planned? Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked Zac: “We didn’t really know what was going on. We saw each other backstage, and he said to me, ‘You know they’re gonna be talking about it.’ And I was like, ‘Dude, I’m in for whatever, because I want what’s best for Luke.” But when did you guys decide to hug it out? “Right there on the spot! And it’s real. I do care about him and his family. The last time he was on the road and we were together, Luke’s sons were there too. Luke’s sons were on my bus, and I had some cap guns for my girls, and they went crazy. They loved it, so we all have fun hangin.'”
