Eli Young Band Congrat Parmalee

One band congratulates another this week on Country Countdown USA.  The Eli Young Band co-hosted the show, and when it came time to play the #1 song, it was the first chart-topper for the new band Parmalee.  So we called Parmalee lead singer Matt Thomas to give him the news.  Mike Eli told Matt: “It’s nice to see another band here at the top of the charts.  We know what it’s like to have that first #1, so congratulations!  Feel good! Have a party!” Matt replied, “It’s awesome man, there’s a bunch of smiles goin’ on with our guys right now.”

Lon asked Matt where they were when they got the news that Carolina was #1: “We were actually rehearsing, which was awesome, because we’re rarely together when we don’t have a show.  But we happened to be rehearsing, our manager called us, cracked open a cold beer, and celebrated.  It was awesome for us to be together in that one moment.”

Both the Eli Young Band and Parmalee have been together for more than ten years.  Matt said, “We started the band in 2001, and it’s good to see guys like the Eli Young band out there, you share a comradery with guys like that.  It’s different for the band guys.”  The Eli Young Band’s first #1 was “Crazy Girl” in March of 2011, and spent 40 weeks on the chart.  Matt says it was a similar experience for “Carolina.” “We released it in February, and it’s been a slow grind, but it’s sweet right now.”
