Trace Adkins: The King’s Gift

| December 21, 2013

Trace CDBack in May, Trace Adkins won Celebrity Apprentice.  That experience, and the publicity it brought him, gave him the opportunity to do a project he’s been wanting to do for about 12 years: A Christmas album.

Trace spoke with Country Countdown USA about his unique holiday project: “I was first approached by a record label 12 or so years ago about doing a Christmas record, and I told him my vision, of doing a very organic, acoustic, Celtic thing, and do very old public domain traditional songs.  They said, no, we want Jingle Bells and Frosty The Snow man.  I said, well I’m not gonna do that record.  Nothing against that music, I like it too, but that’s not the Christmas record I wanna make.  So I just put it on the back burner til last year.  My band leader came up to me and asked why I hadn’t made a Christmas record, and I told him.   He said, ‘Let’s do it,” and I told him my vision, and he said I had to work with Michael Spriggs.  He’s from the Isle of Man, and he’s done several instrumental albums, and he knows that stuff.  So the two of them met, started working on the thing, and it became the most beautiful project I’ve ever been a part of.  This music is simply beautiful, and I’m fortunate to be a part of it.  So I’m very proud of The King’s Gift.”
