Currington Parties With His Granny
Billy Currington was in Nashville Tuesday to celebrate his latest #1: “Hey Girl.” But his date wasn’t one of the models from the song’s video, but rather his 84 year old grandmother! He told Country Countdown USA: “We brought her up last night from Georgia. She’s a big fan of the Christmas lights at the Opryland Hotel. She’s been talking about it for years. That’s all she thought she was doing, and then we brought her here. She loves this town. This is her first #1 party! She still gets around great. She loves this music scene. She started telling us about Roy Acuff, Stringbean, she’s rooted deep in country music. She’s got tons of old records. When I was 10, I went through them. Lot of music, not a scratch on any of them.”
Billy told us he’s done a remix on “Hey Girl:” “We were just out in LA with a group called Cadillacs In Space, we write a lot together, they’ve got a studio, and one night we decided to remake Hey Girl. We started creating grooves, and two nights later we had what we call a remix. I turned it in to the label, never heard anything, so I put it on YouTube the other day. The fans seem to love it.”
Billy just celebrated his 40th birthday: “I just hung out at the house, invited some family and friends. I think we had a bonfire, did some night fishing, messed around at home, pretty simple, didn’t get crazy.”
Billy has been one of country music’s most eligible bachelors, but he’s not interested in settling down: “Settling down…hmmm, what does that mean? It sounds fun, but it doesn’t sound as fun as what I’ve been doing, roaming the land. Maybe at some point, I wouldn’t shy away from having kids and all that stuff. It’s still not there yet. So I’m enjoying being a traveler and free spirit.”
