Lady Antebellum Goes Deluxe

| November 10, 2013

LadyA AMAWhat happens when you give three very creative and prolific singer/songwriters a few months off?  They come up with more music!  Never mind that they just released a new album six months ago.  A lot has happened, and Lady  Antebellum  wants to sing about it.  The solution?  A new Deluxe version of their Golden album.  Country Countdown USA spoke with the trio about the revised collection.  Dave said, “We put out Golden earlier in the year, and got back together after Hillary had the baby this summer, and started writing new songs, went back in the studio, found a couple new ones as well, said let’s find a way to put this out now, so our fans can hear it now.  So we cut a couple new songs, we’ve got a couple acoustic versions of Need You Now, Run To You, and Just a Kiss.  We wanted our fans to know what we’ve been up to, after Hillary was back with us.  We had some songs we’re really passionate about, Compass being one of those, and wanted the people to hear what’s new in Lady A land, so we put this new Deluxe together, and we’re excited to have some new material out there.”

The song “Compass” actually came to them right after the original album was released.  Charles said the song really spoke to them: “We heard this song and immediately gravitated to it.  It sounds like an arena-sized hoe down, we added a bunch of country elements to it with banjo and fiddle, and it just felt, with a positive message, that it had a big anthemic feel to it.  We’re about to start our tour January 10th, so we started thinking about what songs will translate well for the live show, so that’s why we wanted to add to the record, and re-release it again after we’re back from a long break.  We’re ready to get back out there, have a good year touring, and have all this music to tour on.”

In addition to “Compass,” there’s a song called “And The Radio Played.” Hillary talked about that one: “It was just one of those songs Charles and Josh Kear started, and then we needed to Lady A-ify it and tweak it.  It goes through all the songs that influenced us, and songs that take us back to certain memories of growing up.  Then it goes forward to songs that are impacting country radio and songs that we’ll be talking about 20 years from now.  It’s the journey of our country music experience, it’s got a lot of nostalgia, and a lot of inspiring feel to it.”  The third new song is “Life As We Know It.”  Hillary said all three of them wrote it: “It’s a song that’s really accepting that life happens the way that it does for a reason, and finding hope in that.  The first line in the chorus is ‘Don’t be afraid of the things you cannot change.’ Taking life for what it is, and choosing to be happy through the ups and the downs.”

One other thing fans will notice is the three new songs are produced by Nathan Chapman, who has worked with Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.  Charles explained the change: “Once we found the song Compass, it felt like something he could tackle, but more than anything, it was time for us to explore a little bit, and see what it would sound like to have someone else produce us.  We’ve never taken a chance on anything else.”  Dave added, “He has a different approach, and we felt Nathan would fit well with the song Compass, we’re super proud of the way it came out.  He plays every instrument, and it was a fun environment to be in for sure.”

Lady Antebellum’s Golden Deluxe album is available everywhere Monday November 11th.  Their Take Me Downtown Tour kicks off on January 10th.
