Jake Owen: Pearl’s 1st B-Day
Jake Owen’s baby girl Pearl celebrated her 1st birthday on Friday. Her proud pop posted this photo on Twitter. Jake told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he’s had fun during his first year of fatherhood: “I can’t believe a year has flown by. I’ve watched grow up so much in a year. Now she’s walking, and can fall into things, she’s run into a couple of corners already, things like that, scaring me.”
How about child-proofing your tour bus? “She’s got her bus legs pretty good. Probably what made her stand easier was learning how to stand while you’re going 80 miles an hour down the road. It’s been fun having her out there watching her grow up, plus she’s got all the band members, all the guys in my crew, she’s got about 20 uncles, so she’s got a bunch of guys watching out for her.”
Is she talking yet? “She’s found her own voice. She screams a lot, not in a screaming way, but she’ll hold a note for a long time.”
You bring her on stage with the big ear phones? “Yeah, she’s got little pink ones we put on her. Usually it’s good for 2 or 3 songs, then she falls asleep, with the vibration. At least I think it’s the vibration. Unless it’s me, unless my show’s putting her to sleep.”
How often does she go on the road? “I think she’s only missed 2 or 3 shows all year. I’ve got tons of pictures. It’s been fun documenting her journey.”
Have you changed having a kid? “I keep saying no, I haven’t changed, but I feel like I should. I’m a great day, I’m a great husband, my wife would tell you that, I think I do a great job with my child, but I have days where she looks up at me, and I’m like, I’m responsible for you? It’s just an awesome responsibility, it freaks me out some times. I feel so guilty when she hurts herself.”
You change diapers? “I do. I change diapers really well. She loves it when I give her her bottle, because she can fall asleep in my arms. There’s nothing better when she’s curled up right there, kiss her on her head, her fine hair, it smells so good. Yeah, I haven’t changed a bit.”
Jake’s baby Pearl was actually born on Thanksgiving Day last year.
