Lady A “So Ready” To Tour
Lady Antebellum’s Take Me Downtown Tour will kick off on November 8th, and it can’t come soon enough for the group’s Charles & Dave. The trio took the summer off so Hillary Scott could have a baby. Eisele Kaye was born on July 22nd. So how anxious are Charles & Dave to hit the road? They told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “Let’s do it. So ready!” Lon asked, how long after the break began were you ready to go back to work? Charles quickly answered “Two weeks. Truthfully. It was a different schedule. I went to bed a lot earlier. On the road, you go to bed after 1, now it was like go to bed at 10:30.” Dave added, “My wife and I got a dog, so it gave me something to do during the day.”
So does the vacation continue through November? “No, we’re going to start in October, and start rehearsing for the tour that whole month, I’m sure the baby will be sitting in the corner with the big ole headphones on, so that’ll be funny to see. They’ll have their own bus. We video everything, so I’m sure there’ll be something on our website so everyone can see. Changing diapers 101 with Lady A.”
The guys got so bored, they did a club show in Nashville as an 80s cover band under the name of Dick Fantastic. “Our biggest fear when we did this was having to talk about it. But since we had 3 or 4 months off, and we’re dying to play a show. We all grew up playing in cover bands, so wouldn’t it be fun to do a show under a crazy name without anyone knowing who we are? Word started spreading, and it was packed out. It was so much fun, we played Motown, and old 80s songs, and it was one and done. We needed to do a show while Hillary was on maternity leave.”
Has Hillary been totally shut down? “We’ve gone over there, had a few writing appointments at her house. But she’ll get out a bit. I think she & Chris have had a few nights on the town. But she says it’s hard to be away from her baby.” Speaking on that, after all these years as a trio, is it hard to be a duo? “It is, Hillary is usually the talker of the group. Dave & I have had to pick up the slack.”
So what will we see on the new tour? “It’s really important to keep moving forward and try something new. We learned a lot on the last tour, and we’ve got cool ideas for a new stage, new setlist, four albums of material to draw on, so we’ve gone some stuff planned. We’re building the stage, finding ways to walk out into the crowd. That’s what we’ve been doing all summer. Hillary’s come in for a couple meetings too, obviously all of weighing in on cool stuff to do.”
Joining Lady A for the six month tour will be Kip Moore and Kacey Musgraves. Both picked up CMA nominations last week, with Kacey leading the pack. “We know how to pick ’em. Kacey actually signed on before everything started moving for her. She came with us when we played in Europe, so we got to know her then. Kip’s such a great entertainer, he’s had 3 #1s in a row, and seems like a fun guy. Playing golf and writing with Kip sounds like a great fall in my opinion. Hopefully we can get on each other’s records.”
