Jake’s Wardrobe Malfunction
Jake Owen recently gave fans in Charleston SC a different kind of show. The singer was performing Van Halen’s “Jump,” when he split his pants. He talked about the embarrassing moment with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “That night I decided to play Van Halen’s ‘Jump.’ If I hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have tried to be David Lee Roth and do a split jump off the drum riser, which split my pants from the back to the front, and it was really awkward. My bass player once split his jeans, but they were able to duct tape it. But I’d rocked out so hard there was not enough duct tape to cover the hole I’d ripped in my jeans. So we tied my shirt around it, and I finished two more songs. The crowd was cool with it though. It was a weird situation.”
Are you taking any future precautions? “No. It’s like a once in a lifetime kind of thing. It’s like we had a flood here, but people still build there homes on the river. So I’m still gonna wear my jeans the way I do it. It was the most awkward situation. You can put me in any situation, and I can somehow figure out how to get out of it. But when your pants are split wide open, it was the only time in my entire career that I had no idea what to do.”
