Blake Will Return To The Voice
“The Voice” is one of the most popular shows on TV, thanks in part to coach and country star Blake Shelton. In past years, Blake had expressed some frustration with the show getting in the way of his music career. But not any more. Blake told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he will stay with the show as long as they’ll have him: “With Adam and I, we love doing the show, and we’ve figured out how to tour and do the show. Now that we’ve figured out their cycles and schedules, we have figured out how to make it work. Like me I’m going out and doing a full summer tour, and then go back and do The Voice this fall. So far, Adam and I haven’t been given even an option of taking a season off, which is honestly fine with me because I’m having a ball doing it. As long as I can continue to do country music, make records, and go out and tour, why wouldn’t I want to sit in that chair also and have fun and maybe find a new star along the way? It’s working out, and it’s up to the network to say ‘You’re sittin’ out,’ and so far, Adam and I, we’ve been invited back every time, and we’re both pretty happy about it. I’ll be back for Season 5 and so will Adam.”

You can’t argue with success. Team Blake has won the competition two seasons in a row. Blake says he’s confident he has the artists to go 3 for 3: “There’s always somebody in the competition that you get attached to, and this year I’ve got three of those. Obviously I have an all country team with Holly, The Swon Brothers, and of course Danielle, who’s really doing great. But the fact that they’re all country, this year I’m closer and more excited. I go into cheerleader stage mom mode at this point, and I do get as wrapped up in it now as I did in that first season. It’s still as exacting especially when you get down to these final weeks.”
Blake told Lon he gets involved in all aspects of the competition, often suggesting songs for his team to sing: “I’m having such a selfishly good time with this country group, because I think of these songs I grew up to, and Iconvince my artists to do them. I got Danielle to do “Maybe It Was Memphis,” and that was a big hit when I was in high school. She said to me, ‘I never heard this song,’ and you forget she’s 16, how could she have heard it, and to me it’s like yesterday.”
On the show, Blake sits next to Usher: “He’s so funny, he keeps it pretty cool when the camera’s on, but in the commercial breaks, he and I are cracking up the whole time. I’m threatening to say something about him on camera, and it just worries him to death. Every time we go live, he goes, ‘Don’t, if you say that, I will…’ every time I have him on the edge of his seat.”
Blake’s guest mentor this season has been Sheryl Crow, and it’s given him the chance to become friends with her: “Sheryl is one of those people I’ve always admired. She’s an all-American girl, and I’m proud to call her a friend. I love her new song ‘Easy,’ I downloaded it on my phone, I listen to it all the time, because that’s basically what Miranda and I do at home is sit in the yard, drink all day when we get a day off, and we’re just as happy doin’ that as if we were in Cancun.”
Blake wasn’t the only country star on this season of The Voice. Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott was Adam Levine’s guest mentor this year. “I was excited when I heard Adam brought in Hillary, because they’ve actually recorded together before. So they’ve got some history together, they’ve been friends for a while. I thought about having Lady A as my mentor, but how were we gonna get all three? And Adam just brought in Hillary, so to get even, maybe I’ll bring in Dave or Charles next year and let her see how it feels!”
