Strait Has Surprises For 2014
George Strait is about to wrap up the first leg of his Cowboy Rides Away tour. He announced that this will be his farewell tour, wrapping up sometime in 2014. He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that he intends to go out with a bang. “We’ve got some surprises up our sleeve, so next year’s gonna be fun.” George hinted that one of those surprises might even involve Kenny Chesney: “Kenny & I have been friends for a long time, we worked together in the stadium days, and other times too. Don’t be surprised if you see him out next year with us somewhere. We’ve got some big plans.”

Kenny Chesney was on the road with George Strait when the famous “horse incident” took place. Kenny & Tim McGraw were part of the George Strait Country Music Festival in 2000 when Kenny took a ride on one of the police horses backstage. Only he didn’t ask the police. George told Lon it was a night he’ll never forget: “I was there fixin’ to go onstage in Buffalo when he and Kenny got thrown in the pokey. It was so funny because I got the word the police had them right as I was walking on stage. It was a heck of a night waitin’ up for those guys to get back in.” Kenny & George later did the #1 duet “Shiftwork.”
