Carrie Underwood Floats Over Fans
Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away Tour features a floating stage that carries her over her fans to a spot towards the back of the arena. Carrie herself came up with the idea, and she explained it to Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “When we first talked about what we wanted in the tour, it was just a big dream fest, and that idea hit me, because I want a way to get back to the back, but it’s hard for a lady in high heels, it also eats up floor space, and the whole B stage is another problem in its own, so I said, ‘What if we had an entire chunk of the stage that lifted up and went to the back. That way we’re not wasting space, and it ends up being such a cool moment.”
The floating stage has a plexiglass floor, so Carrie can see down, but also the fans can look up. That poses some interesting problems, according to Carrie: “I do make sure, and I want people to know this, I wear shorts under every single outfit, even under my shorts, that there’s no way that we will have any inapproriate, wardrobe malfunctions.”
Carrie says it’s unique experience to float over everyone: “I get to see people. We had the flying truck last time, and it’s so important for me to make eye contact with people I haven’t seen, so every single night, I’ll see these young girls, and for me to see them, and make eye contact, wave at them, and they know I’m waving at them, it’s such a cool moment for all of us.”
