Darius Rucker’s Man Cave
This week, Darius Rucker co-hosts the Countdown from his South Carolina man cave. He built this in his brand new home, which even includes a small sound-proof vocal recording booth. He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “When I built this house, I wanted to do as much work from here as I can, because I don’t like being away from the kids. The traveling part is the hardest part.” The centerpiece is an incredible wall-size projection TV that allows Darius to watch 7 events at the same time. “I’m real big on football. I’ll sit here on Saturday and Sunday and I’ll watch every game. I’ll watch 7 games. I’ll show it to you. I’ve got two computers with my fantasy football teams, and I’m in heaven right here.”
As you can see, one wall is filled with photos and momentos from his incredible career. But you won’t see Platinum Plaques or his CMA Award. He told Lon, “I’m not into big into awards on the wall. I wanted pictures that are special to me. Like this is my favorite Hootie & The Blowfish picture. That’s when we were inseparable, you couldn’t get the four of us away from each other. My family has the Gold Records. I have a photo of Willie, the first time we met Willie, taken on his bus. That’s Arnold Palmer, the Big Red Machine, enough said right there. They’re still my team. When I was starting to like sports, I liked the Reds and the Dolphins. I still love them. One of my two prize possessions is a Dan Marino autographed jersey. He took it off his back and handed it to me in that condition. I love that. The other one is from Gale Sayers, who’s a good friend. I have a photo from Brett Favre that says “To the best singer besides me.” That’s pretty cool. But my other prize is a Rick Flair robe. I love my Rick Flair robe.”
Another special photo on the wall shows Darius with four living US Presidents. He told Lon, “I’ve done a lot of great things in music, but the greatest thing I’ve ever done is I can say I’ve performed for every living President. I have a picture with President Clinton, both Presidents Bush, and President Carter. That’s what I’m most proud of. And I sang for President Obama last November.”
