New To The Top 30: Dustin Lynch

There are some new names to this week’s Top 30, including Dustin Lynch.  His debut single, “Cowboys & Angels,” checks in at #28.  We spoke to the young singer at the ACM Awards a couple weeks ago, and he told us he actually wrote his debut single:  I wrote that song almost 2 years ago.  I co-wrote it, came in with that idea, and my co-writer Tim Nichols had the same idea, freak accident, never happened to him or me, so we sat down and wrote it, didn’t think we had a radio single, my first ever, but it’s a special song to me, changed my life, and can’t wait to see how the story ends.

Video: We shot a video in Elgin Texas, near Austin, where they shot Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues was all shot in Elkin, but the video came out great, it’ll probably come out the end of April.

Album: Still working on the album, few more songs to do, I’m gone so much that finding time to work on it is tough, but that’s a good problem to have.  It’ll be out this summer.  We’re already two-thirds of the way done with it, so I’m really happy with how it sounds so far.

What gave you your love of country music? I grew up in Tullahoma TN, just south of Nashville, grew up watching the Opry, I’ve always wanted to be like Garth Brooks, and actually got to meet him at his Hall of Fame induction, and debuted at the Opry on March 2^nd, and I’m living a dream right now.  Just trying to soak it all in.

Why couldn’t you go to concerts when you were young? My parents, we lived an hour from Nashville, my parents worked so much, my first concert was when I was 17, saw the rock group incubus.
