Lee Brice Wins 1st ACM
What a week for singer/songwriter Lee Brice. His hit song “A Woman Like You,” is racing up the chart. He’s about to release his second CD. And then he wins his first ACM Award, as writer of the ACM Song of the Year, “Crazy Girl.” We caught up with Lee backstage moments after he won his award.
Wow, cool, ain’t never done one of these, or held one of these either. It’s making me weat, it’s heavy. It’s unbelievable. All year it’s been ACM nominee, and now it’s ACM winner. Cool for me, but cooler for the Eli Young Band, those guys worked so hard for so long, they so deserve it, and I’m so proud to be a part of that.
My first single was out 2007, “She Ain’t Right,” so we’ve been working since then, been writing songs my whole life, and in Nashville since 2001. We actually wrote Crazy Girl in 2002, so it’s been around a while, I wanted to release it myself, so those guys loved it, and I saw the passion, so I was so happy and honored.
Where will you display the award? Only got one, so it’ll be right in the center of the mantle piece.
You learn when you first come to Nashville that it’s about work and patience. Then things like this start happening, and it gives you a good feeling.
Talk about your single: It’s very refreshing, A Woman Like You is killin’ it right now, it’s in the Top 5, so if we could get a #1, it’d be my first one. So it’s exciting.
Talk about your new CD Hard 2 Love: I’m a versatile person, and all of it comes out on the album, not two songs that sound alike on the album, so it’s very dynamic, definitely my heart and where I’ve been at the last year of my life, so it’s a good snapshot, I’ve worked hard at it, so I hope people like it.
