All For The Hall Surprises

Keith Urban’s annual All For The Hall benefit concert in Nashville was a night of surprises.  Start with unexpected appearances by legends Don Williams and Merle Haggard.  But the biggest surprise came for the host himself towards the end of the night.  Vince Gill stopped the show and asked Rascal Flatts, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Diamond Rio to come on stage.  Vince told Keith they had a git for him. The gift was in a long black bag.  It turned out to be an Opry microphone.  Vince then invited Keith to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.  Keith was visibly stunned, and accepted.  He will be formally inducted on Saturday April 21st at the Grand Ole Opry House.

The invitation followed an evening of incredible performances by some of country’s greatest groups.  In addition to the previously mentioned Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio, and Rascal Flatts, other performers included Alabama, Lady Antebellum, Thompson Square, Pistol Annies, Little Big Town, and The Band Perry.  The night began with Keith Urban performing his most recent #1, “You Gonna Fly.”  The sold out show benefited the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, which is located across the street from the arena where the concert was held.  Vince Gill is President of the Hall of Fame, and began the night with a “Aimee,” a song he once performed when he was a member of Pure Prairie League.  Keith and Vince played their guitars with all the artists, and joined Don Williams and Merle Haggard on harmony vocals during their sets.  Merle Haggard closed the night with four songs, including “Working Man Blues” and “Silver Wings.” Then the entire cast came on stage for The Beatles classic “I Saw Her Standing There.”  The previous two All For the Hall concerts have already raised over $1 million.
