Strait Meets Scotty McCreery

Last month, George Strait made a surprise appearance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium for his longtime record label MCA.  Also present that day was American Idol winner Scotty McCreery.  Scotty performed several Strait hits during the Idol competition.   George told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he enjoyed meeting the Idol winner: “I met him before the label showcase.  I wish him all the best.  It sounds like he’s got everything going on for him.  Winning that accomplishment is quite an accomplishment.  I can only imagine what his days are like.  He told me he was still trying to graduate high school.”

On the Idol finale, Scotty performed “Check Yes Or No,” as chosen for him by George.  Lon asked Strait about that.  “I think I was fishing at the time when they wanted me to pick a song for him for the finale, and I thought he did a great job on it.  I thought it would fit him at that age.”
