Kenny Updates On Next CD

| February 26, 2012

Kenny Chesney has been working on his next album.  This picture shows Kenny & team at Ocean Way studio in St. Barth’s.  Kenny gave Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton a progress report: “I’m well into the process.  I feel like we got some great songs.  I’ve worked more on music this off-time in previous off-times.  I’ve been more creative than I have in previous years.  It’s very stressful, because it defines what the next part of your life is gonna be.  But it’s been a lot of fun, it’s been a great process this time.    We have some songs that reflect my life.  But I think so far, the album we’re doing pushes me as an artist.  I feel like when I’m done, it’s going to take what we did with Hemingway’s Whiskey, and hopefully build on it, and take people down different roads.  I don’t think we’ve done that yet, but we’re working on it.  I will tell you it’s a touch countrier.  There are a couple songs that might have been earlier in my career than recently.  Then again you’ll hear melodies that are different.  When you’ve been making records as long as I have, you start competing with yourself.  That’s a tough bar to set for yourself.  I want to make it fresh.  I’ve written three songs so far that are on this record.  But I’ve never said I need to record only songs I’ve written.  I could if I wanted to, but it wouldn’t be the same record.  That’s now how this happened to me.  Without giving too much away too early, I’m still in the process of making the record, I have no idea when it’s going to come out, I have no idea if we’re done or how close we are to finishing.”

UPDATE: Obviously the sessions went even better than expected, because it’s been announced that Kenny’s new album will be released on June 19th.  At that time, Kenny will be three weeks into his Brothers of the Sun Tour, featuring Tim McGraw.
