Trace Gets Payback From Blake
One of the biggest hits of 2010 was Blake Shelton’s duet with Trace Adkins titled “Hillbilly Bone.” It topped the country charts, and won the ACM and CMA Vocal Event of the Year. So when it came time for Trace to record his next album, he gave his buddy Blake a call to join him on “If I Was a Woman.” Blake told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton, “Trace called and said, ‘Will you come sing on my record?’ It was one of those conversations where he didn’t want to ask. Then he said, ‘There’s nobody acts as stupid as you so I fugured this song would be perfect for you!” Trace responded, “I didn’t know if anybody else would sing ‘If I Was a Woman” other than Blake. It’s just the perfect song for he & I to sing, and we wrote it pointed at Blake, and we knew we could pull off the comedic tit-for-tat thing, and we were right. Blake & I had so much fun doing it. But he hadn’t heard the song until he came to the studio. He came to the studio and I played it for him, and after it was through, he said, ‘Thank God! I thought it was gonna suck!’ I cussed him for 90 seconds for thinkin’ I’d ask him to do something that wasn’t any good.”
Will it be a single? Trace says, “If it does, nobody will be more happy than me, because it turned out great, we have so much fun in the studio, there’s some of that that get left in there. He came back singing in the wrong spot and I said, ‘You’re too stupid to be a woman, you don’t even know when to come in singing.” How about a video? “It would be a fun video, I could just imagine what this video would be like.”
