Taylor Speaks About Speak Now
When Taylor Swift began planning her 2011 Speak Now World Tour, she paid attention to every possible detail. “It’s fun to put on the show I’ve always dreamed of putting on. We started planning the tour in October. The inspiration came from a lot of different places. I was really inspired by Broadway. They have set pieces going in and out and up and in, so they create different scenes that come out of nowhere, and you don’t expect it. So many things the audience isn’t expecting, and I loved the idea of surprising audiences with a new set or new location. We have aerialists who’ll fly out of the ceiling. There are amazing dancers as well who help tell the story. It’s pretty insane. I love looking at the crowd because they’re looking at what’s behind me. It’s been really cool. I knew I wanted elements of ballet, because I think about the kind of concert I’d want to see.”
Halfway through the show, Taylor leaves the stage and walks through the audience. “Everybody is so emotional, it’s really cool and fun being with the people are made this happen. I’ve learned I can’t have bracelets on when I play a show…because they’ll be gone by the end of the show. They somehow disappear.”
The other detail Taylor has created is a Tour Book, and she brought a copy with her to the studio: “That’s actually Edition 1 of the tour book from Asia and Europe. It doesn’t have any of the costumes or sets from the new tour. We’re making a new one that we’ll start selling next week.” It’s also available at her website: TaylorSwift.com
