Ronnie: Strait’s Sense of Humor

| June 5, 2011

Last year, the Academy of Country Music honored Brooks & Dunn for their incredible career at the Last Rodeo TV special.  Lots of top stars performed on the show, including Reba, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, and Tim McGraw.  One of the highlights was George Strait performing “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”  Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox told Lon he saw George backstage practicing the chorus, and joked with him about his outfit: “You gonna wear that?  Still time to change.”  George replied, “Like I ain’t got enough pressure on me.”

Ronnie Dunn saw George backstage too.  He told Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton that George joked with him before the show, saying “I wonder if I should hit the high note.”  Ronnie went on to say, “So when he did the song, I didn’t think he was going to do it.  So when he actually did it, I fell out.  It shows he does have a sense of humor.”

Ronnie also explained George’s casual dress on the show: “He had been down in Mexico golfing, and was not at the awards show the prior night, so he flew in specifically for the Last Rodeo.”
