Brad Paisley Bumps Fenders With Jeff Gordon
Brad Paisley loves fast cars, so it was a dream come true to get an invitation to the Daytona 500 earlier this year. He tells Lon Helton of Country Countdown USA: “It was pretty surreal. I first signed up to perform on the pre-race show. But then I came off stage, put on a headset, and got in the door of this Camaro and fired it up. I think we did 4 laps and my buddy Jeff Gordon was right behind me and he’s bumping me! That was one of the most surreal thing I’ve ever seen in my read-view mirror.” LISTEN 11-22 Brad3
That Daytona experience played a part in his new video for “Old Alabama.” “The song is really about driving, I liked that image, and I wanted some classic cars. I’ve become friends with Rick Hendrick, who owns the Dale Jr., Jimmy Johnson, Mark Martin, and Jeff Gordon race teams. Rick has a drive-in theater at his house in North Carolia, so we shot it there with his classic car collection. Plus we got Jeff to drive the ’24 car’ on some backroads in North Carolina. You can’t imagine people’s faces when that car went down the road. But one of my favorite things was we C-G-I’d me into old Alabama videos. I’m ‘gumpin” every shot. But I had a great time doing it.
