Darius Credits Letterman For Hootie

| April 27, 2015

darius_inviteDarius Rucker will reunite with Hootie & The Blowfish for one of David Letterman’s final shows.  You might wonder why.  Darius told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “If it wasn’t for Letterman, I wouldn’t have half of my career.  Hootie & The Blowfish Cracked Rear View had been out a few months, and wasn’t doing much.  “Hold My Hand” was the single, and some people were playing us in the south, but it wasn’t a lot.  It was a Tuesday, and one of the pop stations in New York played it on the radio, and David was driving home, he heard it on the radio, pulled over to the side of the road, told his booker and said ‘I want this band I just heard on my show.’  That was a Tuesday, and by Friday, we were on the show.  Friday we went in to tape Letterman as another band, struggling to get on the radio, so different from grunge that no one would give us a chance, and by Monday morning, the adds we got from Letterman were unbelievable.   It changed overnight like that.  So we all say Letterman broke the whole thing for us for sure.”

You can watch the Hootie & The Blowfish reunion on the David Letterman Show this Thursday, April 30th on CBS-TV.
