Darius Rucker Previews New Album

| March 30, 2015

Darius CDDarius Rucker will release his fourth solo album on March 31st.  It’s called “Southern Style,” and he previewed the album with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:  “For me it’s a record about growing up and living in the south.  There’s a song on the record called ‘Southern Style,’ and I thought it was the perfect way to present the record.  I’m a southern guy. I’m southern through and through.  When I write songs, it comes out, so it seemed to fit perfectly.”

What do you love most about the south? “I love living in Charleston where everyone is nice as they can be.  It’s a great place to raise children.

How many songs did you write? I co-wrote every single one.  I love writing, it’s a big part of what I’ve done.

What are the themes of the songs? “We have Southern Style, written about a southern belle who grew up the right way.  We have a song called ‘Half Full Dixie Cup,’ which is about, this ain’t a glass half empty, it’s a half full Dixie cup.  That’s as southern as you can get!”

Darius’ current hit, “Homegrown Honey,” was actually written with Lady A’s Charles Kelley.  “Charles is probably my best friend in the business, we play a lot of golf together, we hang out a lot.  Writing that song was so much fun, it was the first song we wrote together, it was a fun night, and it was cool to come up with something that’s actually a hit.” When you play golf, who wins?” Charles usually wins.  I saw him shoot 68 at Medina.  He’s a pretty good golfer.”

Darius will launch the Southern Style Tour, with Brett Eldredge and A Thousand Horses in May.
