Little Big Town’s Cocktail Recipe

| June 26, 2014

LBT 6-8-14Little Big Town invited a group of Nashville area reporters to join them for a little “Day Drinking,” in honor of their new single of that name.  The center of attention was a custom cocktail, created by the band, which they call an LBT-Rita. “It’s easy.  We stole it from somebody else, and modified it:”

1 can of Lime-aid

1 can of Freska

1 can of tequila

1 bottle of Blue Moon beer

The quartet will bring their summer concoction to The Today Show with Kathy Lee & Hoda next Tuesday July 1. “We love them.  I think their show is so real.  It’ll be a good morning.  A lot of laughing.  They always have a glass of wine in their hands.  So we’ll do some day drinking with them.”

They just debuted the video for Day Drinking, which was shot in the South Beach district of Miami.  “It was awful.  Somebody’s got to do it.  It was a perfect day.  Spending a day on the beach isn’t a bad way to shoot a video.”

Also on the schedule, they will host the CMA Music Fest TV special on August 5th on ABC.  “We feel a lot better about hosting this year, because it was our second time hosting.  We knew what to expect.  Last year we were so nervous.  It’s one thing to sing, but we have to do interviews.  Kimberly & I were so bad at the Tim McGraw interview.  We just turned into giggly school girls.  We measured his body fat.  That was the highlight.  We asked Faith first what to ask.  She gave us some insight.  But we have no idea how they’re going to edit that.”

So with a song like Day Drinking, has that changed the atmosphere backstage?  “This week at a meet & greet, some of our longtime fans came up with liquor, and a jar of relish for me.  We wondered is this how the whole summer is going to be?  Will the fans be bringing us moonshine and stuff?  Not that we’re asking for help.  But one of our manager’s daughters thinks the song is “Day Chicken.”  We hope that’ll get us on Sesame Street.”

Day Drinking is the first single from their new album, which they’ve named “Painkiller.”  So how would they describe the new music? “It is a bold, fun, raucous record.  There are some great grooves that we love on the record.  There were moments of banging our heads on the walls, but I think it’s the best record we’ve ever made.”  The album will be released later this year.
