Scotty & Band Perry Play Ball

scotty-mccreery softballThis week’s co-host Scotty McCreery loves baseball.  He was a pitcher for his high school team, and he’s a fan of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox.  He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton he got the chance to test his skills while doing a show with The Band Perry: “We just opened up for them in Maine, and Kimberly’s fiancé is a major league baseball player (J.P. Arencibia), so we got out there, and he said, ‘Hey you wanna go throw?’ And I said , ‘Yeah!’  There was this big ballroom that we went in, and there’s a huge difference between your high school team-mates, and throwing ball with a major league player!  He threw me something that came in hot, and it did a little curve at the end, and I didn’t get it.  It was like a brand new arena, and I let it go by me and it hit the wall, and made a huge dent in the wall.  He said, ‘Oh we’ll just move the trashcan, and we’ll get out of here real quick.’  You don’t see that kind of moves in high school!”

Have you ever taken batting practice against a major league pitcher? “I haven’t.  In high school, they throw in the 80s, I threw around 81 miles an hour, and in the majors, they throw in the 90s.  You got to be someone else to handle that kind of stuff.”
