Paisley, Lambert, Young, Doobies?

Chris Young Doobie 2-20-14Weather forecasters predicted 40 mile an hour winds Thursday night in Nashville.  That didn’t scare off hundreds of radio DJs away from the annual Sony Music Boat Show on the Cumberland River.  Although the boat was forced to stay docked, the passengers were treated to a great night of music featuring Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Chris Young, Sara Evans, and Jerrod Niemann.  Then, if that wasn’t enough, they introduced rock legends The Doobie Brothers, who played four of their biggest hits, accompanied by country’s top stars.

The night began with Brad Paisley, who told the audience he was working on a new album, and played a new song.  He followed it with the current single The Mona Lisa.  He closed with a song he wrote with Nashville DJ Gerry House: “The Toilet Seat Song.”  Brad Paisley 2-20-14

Sara Evans has been focusing on her family for the past two years, but is now back with a new single and a new album, scheduled for released on March 11.  She played her current single, “Slow Me Down,” as well as her previous #1, “A Little Bit Stronger.”

Miranda Lambert 2-20-14Miranda Lambert began her set with her Grammy-nominated #1, “Mama’s Broken Heart.”  She then followed it with her new single, “Automatic.”  Miranda’s husband, Blake Shelton, watched the performance from the boat’s balcony.

As we watched the show, we could hear tornado sirens several times, as high winds and rain pelted the General Jackson paddle boat.

Jerrod Niemann has a big hit on his hands now with “Drink To That All Night.”  He performed that song, and then played another one from his new album, “High Noon,” due out on March 25th.Brad Doobie 2-20-14

Chris Young was next with his latest single, “Who I Am With You.”  He followed it with the previous single, “Aw Naw.”  As he was leaving the stage, he and his guitar player toyed with a few famous guitar licks.  Then they started the opening riffs of The Doobie Brothers’ “China Grove.”  With that, they introduced the rock legends, who began with that #1 hit from 1974 (40 years ago!)  Chris even joined them for the chorus.  Their next song was “Long Train Runnin,'” featuring Brad Paisley.  The next song was “Black Water,” featuring Patrick Simmons on lead vocal.  Then they closed with “Listen To The Music,” joined by Sara Evans.  At the end of the show, Sony Nashville’s Gary Overton announced that the label was doing a tribute album to The Doobie Brothers featuring a number of top country stars, including Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, and Blake Shelton.  No release date was given, but it’s likely to be later in the year.
