Eli YoungThe Eli Young Band’s latest hit is “Drunk Last Night.”  It’s actually the first single from a new album called “Ten Thousand Towns,” and it’ll be released on March 4th.  The guys previewed the new album when they co-hosted Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton.  Mike Eli told Lon, “We’re done with the new record.  It’s probably one of the most exciting records we’ve ever made.  It’s also one of the most uptempo record we’ve ever made.  We put a lot of sweat into this one.  We don’t think about pressure, but there was a certain amount of success with the last one, and a microscope comin’ down on you, but I think it brought out the best in us.”  Jon Jones added, “I think it made us work harder than ever before, but in some ways it makes you take your time choosing songs, we spent more time songwriting, we brought more to the table than ever before.  I think we’ve never been as happy with the finished product because we put so much into it.”

How many songs did you write?  “It’s about the same as all of our records.  We always write about 7 or 8 of em, we recorded 14 songs for the record.  There’ll be 11 songs on the album, and then 3 bonus songs.” Chris Thompson said, “We’re itching to get it out.  I think we’re playing three or four of them on the road, that’s our only litmus test, the songs are going over well, we’re having a blast playing them, so we can’t wait to get this thing out.”  Those songs include the title song “10,000 Towns,” “Let’s Do Something Tonight, and “Dust.”  James Young said, “It’s been a while since the last album.  Time really flies when you release a record, go out on tour, then holy cow!  It’s been a couple years since the last album.”

Fans of the Eli Young Band will be able to see the quartet when they hit the road with Darius Rucker’s True Believer’s Tour later this month.
