Carrie Vacations in Salzburg

| August 17, 2013

Carrie vacationCarrie Underwood just returned from a 2-week vacation in Europe.  She told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that the trip took her to Northern Italy and Austria: “We went to Tuscany, did the whole wine country thing, Venice, Florence, and then went to Austria.  We had to fly through there anyway, so I figured that since I’m doing The Sound of Music this fall, what a better thing to do.”  So she went to Salzburg, where the original movie was filmed 50 years ago. Carrie said, “We did the whole Sound of Music tour, it was a lot of fun.”  But she said she didn’t bring back any souvenirs: “I don’t ever leave room in my suitcase for bringing back things.  The whole customs thing wears me out.  I’m not a big souvenir buyer either.   I just want to drink wine, eat tons of food, and take pictures.”

As she said, Carrie’s next big project this year is the TV remake of The Sound of Music, where she’ll play the lead character Maria Von Trapp.  She told Lon that she’s already begun work for the show: “I’ve already started.  My summer’s been reading scripts.  I don’t want to over-familiarize myself with it, but if I know my lines and my songs, so when I get there in October, that’s when we move to New York, and start work.  I want to get up there and have a solid two months in New York, just spend a couple weeks working on everything myself.  I have two months blocked out in October and November, except for a week for the CMA Awards.  That’s part of the deal.  So that’ll be nice.  I hope my husband will be here when I’m here.”

The Sound of Music will air live on NBC on December 5th.  “People ask me where they can get tickets, and there won’t be an audience.  Hopefully we’ll have done it so many times, it’ll feel like another  rehearsal.  It’ll be on movie sets, and can’t really incorporate an audience.”

Have you ever taken acting classes? “I haven’t.  I probably should!  I know I’ll be working with a coach.  When we did Soul Surfer, we had acting coaches to work with us.  But no, I’ve never talent any classes.”
