Chris Young Supports the Soldiers

| July 23, 2011

Chris Young made his first trip to Iraq in 2009, as a guest of Craig Morgan.  That experience was powerful enough for Chris to join a group called Stars For Stripes, that brings entertainers to military bases around the world.  This past April, Chris made his first solo trip to the Middle East.

Country Countdown USA host Lon Helton asked Chris about his latest experience. “It was really cool.  Everybody’s happy that you’re there, it’s kind of an escape for them for a little while, they hear music and get an autograph.  Just to tell them ‘thank you’ is an amazing thing.  My little sister is in the Marine Corps, and I have cousins in the military, and so I love going to support the men and women in the military, and I think everybody should do it once.”

Here is a quote from Chris that didn’t make it into the radio show: “One of the things we got to do was a FOB-Hop, which is a forward operating base. They call it a FOB-hop, because you don’t drive to them.  You have to travel in a chopper.  It was just me and my guitar player.  We ended up playing in their dining facility, which was not very big.  It’s Camp Shocker, which is in the Northern border of Iraq.  Only 250 guys on a base in the middle of nowhere.  They said we were the first people who came to see them.”
