Chris Young: Hat or No Hat?

| July 23, 2011

For most of his musical career, Chris Young sported a black Resistol cowboy hat.  It was something he picked up during his club days in Dallas.  He wore it through the Nashville Star competition, and on his first two albums.  But lately, Chris has had a new look, going hatless!  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked Chris about the change in appearance.  “Everybody has asked me about it!  If I realized I could get this much publicity, I would have done it before.  I finally found a way of doing my hair that I liked, so I thought I’d try it for a show, and loved it.  I found out that people in the 4th row could now see me.  They don’t just see a shadow.”  So did it feel funny at first?  “No!  And that’s the thing.  At first when I tried it, I thought either it’s gonna work or it’s gonna be the most awkward show of my life.  And I figured I’d reach up to grab it, and I never did.  I felt comfortable being on stage like that.  My label didn’t make me do it, and the one thing I’ll say, I know my fans got my back, because I saw some people who said, ‘Man if that label told you to take that hat off,’ they were gonna be upset if it wasn’t my idea.”
